As owls come to the tree they are required to take these classes if they wish to be tapped for a chaw. Once completed the rybs will determine which chaw the owl will be suitable for.
Remedial Flight Lab and Power Flight
(For Weak Fliers Only)
Taught by ryb: Open
Info:All owls that come to the tree will be tested on flight. If you are deemed a poor or weak flier then you are required to take this class. This class focuses on sound flight, basic flapping, upstrokes, downstrokes, power liftoff, wing control, air carving, basic steering, and flying information.
Beginner Search and Rescue Techniques
Taught by ryb: Open
Info: This course will teach advanced flying skills, including high-altitude and low-altitude circling, diving, emergency landing, and in-flight object retrieval. With ryb's approval some owls may begin work with battle claws.
Winds and Things

Info:This course teaches about flying in all types of wind and how to use that as an advantage. This class will teach how to fly in turbulent winds, thermals, gutters, scuppers, swillages, bagguwrinkles and some winds caused by fires.

Basic Care and Maintenance of the Great Tree
Taught by ryb: Open
Info: This course teaches how to maintan the Great Tree. This includes pellet burying, vine trimming, and pruning.
Common Metals and Their Uses

Info: This course will introduce young owls to the metals that can be easily be found on or near the Island of Hoole. Owls will also be required to identify basic tools used by blacksmiths. Those who pass will receive their Forge Safety Certificate and will be allowed to work in the forge.
Tracking Birds and Small Land Animals

Info:This course will teach owls how to identify the tracks of birds and small land animals. Owls in this class will work with the tracking chaw on tactical tracking operations to develop proper groundwork skills.
The Lives of Forest Fires
Taught by ryb: Open
Info: Owls will learn the elements of fire, how forest fires start, the properties of thermal drafts, coal types, and fuel ladders. At the end of the course owls will be ready for fire penetration and coal retrieval.
